Knowing how to manage money is a skill that people need at any age. … Ecoedulink
At Dew of Hermon We know that financial and economic literacy changes the way people see the world and their roles in it.
Our students are exposed early on finance skills so they know how to budget their money, understand all their needs and wants and make an informed decision If and when they have cash, think about saving a part of it instead of spending it all when they have money.
We lay the foundation so when they get old enough to earn money, they will have even more decisions to make about how to budget, save, and spend their cash.
We make sure learning about money is loaded with fun they play games, do puzzles, read books and watch videos that teaches all the important facts about finance.
Yearly our pupils go on Ecoedu work (financial fitness for life) to places like banks, supermarkets, volunteer job, engage in estate clearing etc. To practice knowledge of money value for later life.
In the cultural area our children learn about happenings around the world; different cultures, different geographies e.g. we focus on teaching the children about land, air and water and subsequently are guided by the curriculum that will teach them about the different continents i.e. Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Antarctica and Australia.
We start the year by learning vocabularies and working with pictures matching, object matching. We also engage in segmentation, which helps early readers to build the skills that they need for reading and writing. We then move on to the sand paper letters where the children use their senses to feel the sound (we use Nelson handwriting curve lines, these are easy to create than straight lines at this age). We move on to the movable alphabets, which then leads to early reading. Here at DOHMs, we also expose our students to Mandarin, French & Yoruba languages.
Social & emotional development of your child is very important to us, one of the ways we do that is by introducing our peace table, we talk about peace in the classroom every day and about how each student is an integral part of our community that include teaching them skills of confects and resolution. Some skill we use are through the peace rose by using it as taking tool. Sometimes when a student is feeling frustrated, we might include peace clay to help them work out their frustration. If a child is having difficulties focusing over their work, we might introduce the peace music to help them calm down to regain concentration.
“Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war.” Dr. Maria Montessori
Here at DOHMS, we learn about nature with our botany and zoology materials, where our children learn about plants, animals, insects e.g. life cycle of a frog. We also do science experiments and encourage our pupils to raise questions and engage in discussions about the natural world around them.
“The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with Earth.” Dr Maria Montessori
By exposing children to nature and the elements of the natural world, we help to inspire them to become storehouse of the environment to care about and to take care of the world they live.
“At the present time, however and in the circumstances of modern society, children live very far from nature and have few opportunities of coming into intimate contact with, or having any direct experience with it”. Dr. Maria Montessori
The children learn about numbers and quantities and how to put them together. They are also learning the operations in a very concrete way through additions, multiplications, divisions and subtractions. They also learn decimal system and also how to skip counts.
“Children display a universal love of mathematics, which is par the excellence the science of precision, order and intelligence”. Dr. Maria Montessori
In this area, the children learn shapes, sizes, colours, textures and smell by utilizing all their senses and differentiating their likes, differences and using the proper vocabulary.
“The sense being explorers of our world open the way to knowledge”. Dr. Maria Montessori
